About the Artist
Emerging from the gritty hardcore punk scene of LA's South Bay in 1979, Circle Jerks quickly established themselves as influencers of the hardcore punk movement, with a sound that is simultaneously relentless and thoughtfully dynamic. Co-founded by Keith Morris, formerly of Black Flag, and guitarist Greg Hetson, the band became known for their ferocious yet articulate approach, combining earnest and often derisive lyrics with potent rhythms and a raw stage presence that could incite chaos akin to a social experiment gone wild. Their refusal to conform was solidified in their debut album "Group Sex," which crammed fourteen rapid-fire songs into sixteen minutes, a milestone that still resonates decades later. Their influence extended beyond music into subcultural arenas, including skateboarding and punk's visual aesthetics, immortalized by their "Skanking Kid" logo and appearances in landmark documentaries like "The Decline of Western Civilization." Despite numerous lineup changes and hiatuses, including side projects like OFF! and collaborations with other punk icons, Morris and Hetson have kept the band’s spirit burning, proving that punk is less a phase and more a lifelong commitment to challenging the status quo with wild energy and uncompromising attitude.
