Teen Mortgage
Teen Mortgage’s live performances are fast, filthy, and unapologetically loud—less a show and more a controlled detonation of surf punk and garage fuzz. The Washington, D.C.-based duo (yes, just two humans are responsible for all that sound) slings riffs like bricks through stained glass, with vocals that straddle the line between unhinged and divine. Their track Tuning In captures their sonic ethos: gritty, restless, and fueled by the same twitchy energy you’d find in a basement show teetering on total collapse. Known for climbing amps, dangling from ceiling beams, and once playing a set where a fan accidentally pulled the mic stand into the drum kit—none of which stopped the band—Teen Mortgage turns chaos into currency. Guitarist-vocalist James Guile and drummer Ed Barakauskas cut their teeth in DIY scenes, and their live chemistry has become somewhat mythic: unrelenting, sweaty, and louder than whatever your upstairs neighbors are complaining about. They don’t just perform; they exorcise, electrify, and leave you wondering how something so raw can still feel this good.
